Presidio Park, San Diego Engagement
It’s engagement shoot season! I love engagement shoots, but I understand not every couple is as excited about them as I am. So I’m here to tell you all of the reasons why you SHOULD do an engagement shoot and how to rock it!
Engagement shoots are completely unique to each couple. Before I get into the many reasons why e-shoots are amazing, let’s talk location. Location is everything. Before scheduling your shoot, think about what type of vibe you’re going for. Do you want something beachy, rural, urban or a specific place that is special to you? Take into consideration the time of year too. Beach locations are the busiest on weekends and in the summer months. Another thing to think about is the time of day. Best photo lighting (which I will cover in another post) happens around sunset. This time of day is often referred to as golden hour - when the light is soft and golden. Sunset is the most ideal time of day for photos, but don’t be afraid to ask your photographer for alternatives. Sunrise, or even a cozy indoor setting are options for the couple who likes to stay clear of crowds.
Okay so let’s get to the reasons why engagement shoots are awesome!
They are like a test run for the big day. Engagement shoots are the perfect way to practice in front of the camera. They are also the best for getting to know your photographer before the big day. Not all photographers are alike, so it’s important to understand how your wedding photographer(s) work (even if you’ve done other shoots before). Some photographers are super posey, while others may be candid, similar to my style.
“We are so weird in front of the camera”. I get it, photos are awkward. Honestly, I hear this so often! I like to tell my couples to expect the first five minutes to be really awkward (just being transparent here). But it’s not something you should worry about at all! After that first five minutes of warming up, you will be a total pro. Plus, I will be there to walk you through every step of the way.
It's all about the photos. You can never have too many photos, right!? Engagement shoots are a great option for save the date cards and wedding websites. Some couples even use them as decorations at their weddings. They’re wonderful memories to look back on too.
In conclusion, everyone should schedule an engagement session and I can't wait to meet all the newly engaged couples out there!
